PERFECTION is not the answer when it comes to lips this season – instead, make-up artists backstage at the autumn/winter 2013 shows used colour to stain, blur and smudge for a worn-in, romantic effect in berry and petal hues.
At Christian Dior, Lanvin and Paul Smith, two-tone techniques created the illusion of flowers in bloom, with a darker colour dabbed onto the centre of the lips before diffusing outwards like unfurled petals. At Prada and Derek Lam the look was more dishevelled, with matt stains and blurred edges lending a faded “morning-after” feel, while the boldest of scarlet lips at Marni were blended at the lip line for a romantic, soft-focus finish.
Take your cues from Vera Wang and forgo mascara and blush to let your lips really do the talking. See the look at the autumn/winter 2013 shows here.
